Backyard Horticulture

Backyard Horticulture Winter Learning Classes

Every February through March we offer an eight-week, in-person course titled “Backyard Horticulture” for the general public. Presentations are given by experienced Master Gardeners or County Extension professionals, covering a wide variety of topics. For example: Soil, Composting, Injury Prevention, Pollinators, Seed Starting, Annuals & Perennials, Pruning, Vegetable Gardening, Natives and Invasives, Pest Management, Sustainable Turf, Garden Design, and more.

Classes meet weekly, and each session is approximately 3 hours, with two or three separate speakers per session. The eight-week course fee is $80.

There are two locations for Backyard Horticulture. The Barnstable class is held on Thursday afternoons (1 - 4:15 pm) in the County Complex Harborview Room in Barnstable Village. The Harwich class will be held on Friday afternoons (1 - 4:30 pm) at the Harwich Community Center. These are completely separate courses with separate enrollments. Choose the one that is most convenient for you. Enrollment in both classes is limited.
